Dear Pasty-Cam...All of your pictures are enjoyed by this yooper, from Ontonagon, who has lived in the Southwest for 38 years. One of my all time favorite "pictures" is coming into Rockland on highway 45 from Houghton. As you round the curve and approach the hill just before entering Rockland, if you stop on top of that hill you will get the best picture! The Methodist Church is on the left and the town looks like a village on a postcard. There is always great excitement for me and my family as we approach that spot and when we see Rockland from that view we know we are home. Thank you for all the wonderful photos. How nice to have a little bit of home everyday.

Enjoy this site and I particularly enjoyed the picture the other day from between Chassel and Houghton. My son lives right about there; will be up to see him this weekend.

By Bill Wellman, Virginia on Sunday, January 30, 2000 - 09:17 am:

This site is one of the greatest! Originally from Marquette, and a '77 Tech graduate, I, at times, miss the good 'ol UP. I am currently stationed (Air Force) in the Washington,DC area and get a kick out of how this area "handles" the snow. Just last week the city closed down for two days for just 10" of snow! I can't imagine what would happen if the Lake Linden picture posted on this site would happen here! Looking forward to seeing some Winter Carnival pictures. Tanks, eh

By Bill Penprase, from CA on Saturday, January 29, 2000 - 10:18 pm:

Pasty Cam photographer should tread more cautiously when he thinks he is in the Marquette environs. Imagine identifying the January 10th picture as coming from anywhere other than Eagle River. He obviously was caught up in a time warp. That scene is of the foot of the main street in Eagle River in 1930. I know; I saw it!

Bill Penprase

Marquette, no kidding
Our archives only go back about 2 years :o)

Chassell was mentioned with today's photo. Maybe next summer you can have the PastyCam visit the Strawberry Festival? Did I miss previous visits to the StrawBerry Festival by the PastyCam?

One year, my wife brought a puppy home from the festival. She was told it was a male. A year later, our "male" gave birth to three Black Lab and one Golden Lab puppies.

This is Connie Messner (Pizzitola) from Houghton High School Class of '80! I've been in Denver for 16 years now and would love to hear from anyone from Houghton at cpizzitola@ttseagle.com. www.pasty.com is the nicest website I've ever seen and I love the Bridge Cam. Thanks to who(m)ever put this together! What a great job you have done!! God Bless all of you.

By R.L. Gallun on Thursday, January 27, 2000 - 10:44 am:

To all the Pasty Cam crew. Your video shots are great I have been documenting video scenes of the Keweenaw for quite a while. We are summer residents on Sedar Bay Road so most of my shots are done in the summer. Your winter shots fill in what we aren't getting. I would like to accompany the cam crew next summer when you take those beautiful videos. We spent our honeymoon in the Keweenaw 50 years ago and have been coming back ever since. Keep up the great work. We always enjoy seeing pictures of the UP, particulary the Keweenaw.
Bob and Gerry Gallun
PS We ordered pastys today.

Does anyone still make/sell thimbleberry jam or scalded cream? You have given me my pasty and saffron bun connection, so I might as well ask for the moon. <G> Thank you for a wonderful site that brings back many fond memories.

You might try the Jam Lady, or the Jampot, or Copperworld, all accessible from our main menu

Your Pasty Cam crew truly excelled this week (1/16 - 1/22). Who took all those fantastic shots? They capture the pure essence of winter in the U.P. The "snow-blossom" tree has my vote for your 2001 calendar.

As seen on the Pasty Cam
Thank you for the picture of the Church of Christ you took last Sunday. The irony is that my husband and I were visiting Hancock that very day and attended church there!!!! I made that picture request about a month ago and you took it the day I was there! Thanks a lot!!!!! We have ordered the yummy pasties and while we were up there went to the Calumet Mercantile and Copper World. We bought some yummy fudge and Thimbleberry Jam to bring back to Texas with us. We just ordered some more fudge, cause by the time we drove back, it was all gone!!!! We love pasty.com, it has put us back in touch with the U.P.!!!!!!!
By Jeff, Michigan on Thursday, January 20, 2000 - 12:25 am:

Very interesting sight. Searching for a specific bakery in the northern L.P. and came across your site. Been here for the last 2 hours. Very nice... And interesting.

Good luck to you folks and I'm sure I'll be ordering some "real" pasties VERY soon.

This is a message to let all those involved with the pasty cam know that it is really good to be able to view it on a daily basis. My computer crashed in November and I've only been able to access the site a handful of times in the last 2 in a half months. It's good to be back! Keep up the good work!

Paul

P.S. Jump in a snow drift for me! (Or at least think about it) :-)

By john in WI on Friday, January 14, 2000 - 11:12 am:

We finally got some snow. Here. Thanks for sending some on down!

By Beverly Winslow on Friday, January 14, 2000 - 01:44 am:

Hi, I won the snow thermometer in your last contest and never received it. Was wondering if it has been shipped out yet?? Thanks for your time and consideration.

Perhaps a little delayed by all the snow this week... We'll put a trace on and be in touch.

By Ernie Kuusisto, Washington on Thursday, January 13, 2000 - 09:09 pm:

Hi! Back in the mid 60's I worked at Cleavland Cliffs Mather "B" and I could not think of Teal lake. Did you know that one of drifts in that mine go under that lake? Was always on my mind when we were working down there.

Can anyone tell me if the Presque Isle Bog Walk and Nature Trail featured on Jan. 11th was established by Lon L. Emerick? I have a book written by him, and he developed an interpretive path describing habitat at Little Presque Isle north of Marquette. Are these one and the same?
Keep up the good work - I sure enjoy your website!

By Kim Reini on Monday, January 10, 2000 - 12:55 pm:

I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful pictures. My husband is from Hancock and now that we live in Mexico, he really misses going up north after Christmas to see the snow, we didn't get enough in Detroit for him. Hopefully we can make it up next winter for a week or so.

By Rose Tuttle, Illinois on Monday, January 10, 2000 - 08:56 am:

Hello from boring old Mokena, Illinois! I found your website just before New Year's Eve, and have spent countless hours on it since. I've been going to the U.P. for vacations for 30 years now, even spent my honeymoon in Copper Harbor and Isle Royale. Could you take a picture of the "Breezy Point Lodge", on Rt. 41 in Copper Harbor? And does anyone know why it has been vacant for so long?
Thanks, Rose Tuttle

I suspect that the author from Cornwall might have had some meat that was tainted with "Mad Cow Disease". We all know where that started, don't we?

Of course, only the best Cornish people came here to settle and brought with them their best Cornish Pasty recipes. The others were left behind in good old Cornwall. And that's why there are "Superior Cornish" Pasties available from Pasty Central.

Now, now... let's not get personal. ...Though I must say it makes for some interesting reading :o)

By Jeanie, Westland, Michigan on Saturday, January 8, 2000 - 03:42 pm:

The Red Wing player shown on Pasty-Cam is so cute. I have him on my wallpaper now. Who is the little gentleman?

Guess Duchy man of Cornwall has never had a pasty made at Still Waters? We think they are the best. They are made with Lake Superior air. What is McDonalds, Duchy?

The cute kid is Alex Voelker, and has probably appeared more on the Pasty Cam than any other individual. Son of Abe and Chris (Bausano) Voelker. Abe is a manager at Fraki's and Chris's folks operate Copperworld.

By Duchy man, Cornwall. on Saturday, January 8, 2000 - 10:15 am:

I am from Cornwall......The true home of the Pasty. you Americans and other non-Cornish people have no idea of the true potential of the good old meat, vegetable and pastry combination until you try one from the good old Duchy of Cornwall. I am sure that you think you can make one. But you miss that special ingrediant. ....The cornish sea air. You can't beat it, t'is 'andsome you know! You have probably never tasted a real crust and you can not just walk down to the local butchers opr bakers and buy one, still, I suppose you have always got Mcdonalds!!!

By Sylvia, New Mexico on Thursday, January 6, 2000 - 10:54 pm:

I spent Christmas in Vancouver, WA with my daughter Sharon (Hiltunen) VanAusdeln (Ontonagon class of 1979) and for a surprise for me, (Sylvia Lehto Thacker, Ontonagon class of 1959) she ordered pasties. They were wonderful and made us feel like we were "home". Thanks to all of you at Still Waters and a very Happy and Blessed New Year. Love your web site, especially Pasty Cam.

By Anne Probstfeld Horsma CA. on Thursday, January 6, 2000 - 09:59 pm:

Dearest Jan,
Thanks so much for the greetings."Happy New Year" to you too, and, to all my friends in the Copper Country. Lake linden is always in our thoughts during the holidays. In fact, I made prune tarts today, in honor of Richard's heritage. I'm told, it wouldn't be Christmas time in Finland, without, prune tarts! Better late, than never.
Carol & Marty, we're thinking of you. Luv, Anne
PS. PASTIES!! Wow! Now, that's "HOME"!!

Go Ishpeming
We were in Nara, Japan when we took this picture. I am on the left of the gentleman with the Ishpeming Hematites shirt and my husband, Ray is on the other side. The other lads in the photo gathered around when we produced the camera.

My husband and I have been on a Voyage around the world called Semester at Sea, lasting 3.5 months... We attempted to converse with the young Japanese lad, but his English was limited to the fact that he played Soccer (football, to him).

I am from South Carolina, but born in Sault Ste. Marie and my mother was born in Ishpeming and my father in Lake Linden--well, really in L'Anse and grew up in Lake Linden. Would welcome any email at

By Alice Neilson, California on Thursday, January 6, 2000 - 02:30 pm:

I wanted to leave a message in the PastyCam calendar section, but didn't see how I could. How do I find out if my order for the photo calendars, tote bag and magnet went through? I thought I'd have received them by now. Is there any way to check to see if my order was received, and when it was sent out? Or who do I contact?

Thanks.

Thanks for the note, Alice. If you ever have questions about any shipment or order from Pasty Central (and the GiftNook) you can email us at orders@pasty.com. We did have some problems just before Christmas with an avalanche of last minute orders. We'll check on your order and get back to you when we have traced it. Thanks for your patience!

Sure, please stop by Still Waters during business hours to order pasties. As soon as you enter the door, just stop at the desk to place your order. Chances are you'll be greeted by Martha. Our address is 600 E. Elm St. Calumet, MI 49913.
